Title: WOT Stumble
Post by: Chevynation on October 21, 2022, 08:34:24 PM
Hello, my Quadrajet is part number 7040203 and I’m familiar with mechanical secondaries carbs and this is my first Quadrajet. If I got WOT the car will respond and then kick in which I’m assuming is the secondaries opening up. I have a 4-speed so when I shift through gears it will fall and then pick up almost similar to how a turbo car starts to pull on the big end. Is this normal for a Quadrajet or do I need to adjust the airvalve? Thanks.

Check/test the opening rate of the secondary pull-off.  It should open in about 1.5-2 seconds if compressed and released.

The tension of the secondary air flap spring is also a player.  It should be set about 3/4 turns from when it just touches the pin for initial testing.

I see a LOT of weak/defective springs that have been wound to tight and bad secondary plastic cams.  Both need to be in good working order to get the best results......
