Good Day, Presently doing my first modified Q-jet with the help of Cliff's Book and custom kit. All going good so far, but have a question. The primary throttle shaft has a green paint or teflon on it. Unfortunatly, most has been removed in the clean-up process. What was the purpose of this green coating and will running the carb without it cause any problems down the road. Also a few other parts have it as well.

As far as I know Teflon on the shafts
was applied to reduce friction related wear,
this was not cheap for the company to do,
& generally was only done on the primary shaft,
few had it also on the secondary shaft. My Toronado's
OEM carb. has the coating on both shafts and is slightly
warn off. Good luck finding shafts of the original quality.

If they are down to bare metal, they will need electroplated or at least painted with something.
We electroplate them here, to prevent rust/corrossion and sticking in the bores, etc....Cliff

There's a place in town here that does ceramic coating (in various colors and even clear), I wonder if that would hold up well. I am going to call them and ask some questions. Of course, chrome shafts would bre nice and slippery in a bronze/oilite bushing.

Any coating or plating applied must be very thin, or the shaft will not fit well in the bushings. If you are using our kit, and bushings, the clearance will be less than .001" before you plate or paint the shaft.....Cliff
