I have a 1972 GTO which I purchased in 1987 built in 11C (3rd week Nov). It had a Nov 1971 YC 455 block when I bought it which is the correct size and engine code but the VIN doesnt match the car so its not the original engine.
The carburetor is a Quadrajet Mfg. by Carter Carburetor with p/n 6375S and underneath that "898". I have seen on the internet one listing for this carburetor being for a 1972 400 or 455 Pontiac but the correct carb for the GTO is 7042272 I think. What do I have? Thanks for any information

You have a Service Replacement carburetor made by Carter. They made quite a few service carbs for Rochester.
The original part number was either 7042262 or 7042272 for the non Ram-Air 455 engines that year with the auto transmission......
