Title: carb #7047687
Post by: 68rs/ss on November 17, 2023, 03:58:30 PM
There is a old carb for sale locally and I am not sure if this number is correct. Fellow selling said there is no stamped number at usual location on carb body above secondary throttle shaft. There is a number in round circle cast on main body on rear of carb. 7047687.
Going by normal decoding methods, I cannot figure what this is. Maybe a GM replacement carb?
Wondering if it would a worth while carb for rebuild.

As cast numbers are no application number, clean this area and look for stamped number. Looks like a 1974-78 Chevy Quadrajet.

$80 for a it. Unless it is something special, think I will pass. Bought one last week for $20 and now looking at three early Pontiac and one that looks like a Buick for $15 each. Just going thru your book now to see if I can narrow it down. Guy doesn't have numbers and likely not interested in looking.

Two of the carbs in that pic at CCC, so pretty much useless.

One is a 73-74 Pontiac, nice unit.

From what I can see of the other two one is a Pontiac 301, could be a 1980 turbo carb as they came with an E-choke but it could be that someone just added it.

Can't tell the year of the later Olds but if it's a 1975-76 with the early APT system they are doorstops.  The later Olds with the APT screw in front of the PP are at the top of my list.  I used those for years go build customer electric choke high performance carbs from......

Good info. Thank you.

Picked up carb number I was originally asking about. Beat the guy down to $30 which I am ok with. Looking at carb, there are no ID numbers stamped in normal location above secondary throttle shaft on drivers side. There is no stamped disc on body like the older carbs had. There are the numbers 7047687 in a small circle cast in main body at rear of carb. Could this be a OEM replacement? Carb seems to have original finish on it and no white tags or stickers indicating a refurbished unit. It has divorced choke and APT in base. Looks like a GM style for auto transmission. I will take apart a little later to do inspection and measure all bleeds, jetting etc...
Attached a few photos.
Would this be a good core for performance?

Nothing wrong with those at all if you don't mind the divorced choke set-up.....
