Title: APT setting
Post by: GSP7 on December 29, 2024, 12:45:32 PM
17080213 carb I got of Ebay

Upon disassembly for cleaning , checking the APT original base setting reference before removal.

It was only screwed in/down 1 1/2 turns and was free of the threads. So It was barely even screwed in place. Appears who ever rebuilt the carb/ adjusted it previously didnt install/adjust it correctly

Is there a general starting setting I should use when I reinstall the APT ? ? ?
Like gently seat it all the way down and then 2(couple ?) turns up/counterclock ways ? ? ?

About How many turns is the APT usually set at?

Did alittle ATP research , Looks like 3 turns up or 3.5-4 turns up from seated  Is a good starting point

I have found that the factory APT setting for the 17080213 is 3.75 turns up from lightly seated.
Noteworthy is that the APT starts lifting the power piston @ 2 turns up from lightly seated.
The APT setting may vary from 3.25 to 4.75 on different applications, most are 3.75 though.

A 50-100 rpm increase at the choke-blade tip-in test at 2200 rpms will get you close to optimum setting of the APT.
