Need some help on my qradrajet build for my dirt track car. I race pure stock, 81 monte carlo, 350 stock engine. th350 trans, 4.11 posi, gears. I got carb number 7044230. i run 2nd gear the whole way on a 3/8 mile track. i need max. WOT coming out of corners. The quad thats on there now is ok, but stumbles a little coming out of the corners. Any advise on my rebuild?

Have you upgraded the fuel system to improve the flow?

Have you opened up the needle hole in the needle/seat assembly to a larger size such as .130-.135"? Is your float level set to 1/4" below the float well?

for the fuel system, all there is, is a 15 gallon fuel cell in the trunk running straight to the fuel pump, to fuel filter to carb. and 73 z28, i dk much about these things, i mean i took it apart and i can put a rebuild kit in it but as far a needle in a hole? which one. pics could help, and i havent set the float yet

dont get me wrong this isnt my first quadrajet i have broken into, i just need baby steps lol.

I don't know what the rules are for pure stock, but big block trucks had bigger fuel lines. I suspect cars did too.
Qjets can run low on fuel volume in the 1/4, increasing pressure isn't the cure, Volume is.
Where the sump is, line size, Can you run a high volume booster pump near the tank?
What pump is on the motor?
Still got the internal filter in the carb? Screw on inline filters have much more flow and micron rating.
Major acceleration and steady turns can force gas away from the pick up and does it have a screen on it? You want the pick up in the high pressure area.
It has already been said about float needle/seat size.
My list doesn't have that number, 7044227 CHEV 74 454 SUBURBAN, then then 62.
Swap enough parts and get any combo.
If you are serious get a couple books, Cliff Ruggles, Doug Roe I am sure these will tell you more than you ever wanted to know

Carburetor 7044230 is from a Chevrolet Blazer & Jimmy CK10 (exc. Sub) Non-California M/T 350cid Engine. :)

The needle/seat assembly that i'm referring to is the float needle and seat. To open the hole size to allow more fuel for a performance application, simply remove the float and float needle , then unscrew the brass seat, flip it upside down and drill it out with a .130-.135 drill bit. This will allow
more fuel volume to the carb bowl so it doesnt run low during a race. Hope this helps.

now i ran the numbers on this carb, 7044230, is off a caddilac, which i can buy b/c the previous owner has a label on the side that says 74 caddy. ok so 73 z28 u say drill the brass seat, no problem. Sounds like a good idea, just i get nervous tampering with internals, that wont make this thing run to rich and possible choke the motor down? will it? also what kind of noticable performance do you see from doing this?

I was looking at 7044203, instead of 7044230. Obviously, the second-to-last digit makes all the difference in the world. So, yes, 7044230 is from a '73-'74 Cadillac 472cid/500cid A/T. My bad, sorry. :)

YOU MIGHT WANT TO GIVE CLIFF A CALL, HE'S DONE MANY CIRCLE TRACK CARBS. YOUR STUMBLE COULD ALSO BE DUE TO OVER-RICH CONDITION DUE TO FUEL SLOSHING. THERE IS A SOLUTION OF PUTTING ELECTRICAL TAPE OVER THE GASKET WHERE THE SECONDARY RODS PASS THROUGH. AND DEPENDING WHAT CARB MODEL, THERE ARE OTHER MODS. CALL CLIFF FOR THE BEST ADVICE, GOOD LUCK
