Title: carb. I.D.
Post by: billy 2 on April 05, 2012, 06:06:56 AM
I bought a couple of carbs at a swap meet and the guy threw in a third one just to get rid of it.  It is just the main body and the air horn, no base plate.  I took the air horn off and found out that it had a set of DA rods and a "S"hanger on the secondary .  I am curious; what was the application for this carb?  It was manufactured by Carter.  The number is 4954S.  Under that is J4.  Front fuel inlet.  Any help with identification would be appreciated.  Billy2

4954S was used in '67-'75 Oldsmobile Models 425cid engine and other engines. It was also used in GMC Motorhomes and Olds Marine In-Board engines. :)

 Billy,
The J4 is the date code and stands for September (J) of 1974 (4). So it would have been on the '75 Olds. Was that what you were asking? Take care. :)
