Hey everybody. So I bought what looked like a decent carb to use as a rebuilder. I talked to Cliff and got everything I needed to get it up to snuff. When I took the carb apart, I found that the primary throttle shaft hole in the base plate had been repaired with JB weld. Basically my throttle plate is junk.
Does anyone know if there are specific interchanges on these? Given that I already bought all of this stuff, I'm kind of locked in to the 17058253 carb. There are a couple of carbs with this number on ebay,. but they want over $200 for them, which I find ridiculous.
Grrr

A quick follow on question. Could I assume that 17057253 and 17059253 are the same? just from 1977 and 1979 respectively.

Yes, you can use the 1977 and 1979 Olds base plates on your 1978 Olds Q-jet, no issues.
The 1977 base plate will have slightly larges holes, .090", for the idle needle screws than the later ones at .075".
