I have a 17059247. It is going on a newly rebuilt Ford 300 (306 ci) in a truck with a manual trans and 3.31 rear gears. The engine is about 250 hp, with just under 9:1 cr, with a fairly large (280 adv., 220 @.050, .480 lift, 112 lsa)cam, 14hg at idle. I was going to use 'Recipe #1' in cliff's book, but wasn't sure due to the engine being a 6 instead of an v8.

I am also curious about whether to drill the primary butterflies to add some bypass air. I am using a baseplate from another 1705 without bypass air. If so, how much? Thanks for the help.

Do NOT swap out the baseplates, always use the original one that came with the carburetor.

Do NOT drill the throttle plates, use the idle bypass air system if/as needed instead.

With that much cam in the little 300 you are going to need some additional idle fuel and some bypass air.  I'd be looking closer to recipe #3 instead of #1.

Make sure to get one of my rebuild kits for the carb. I will include the later design high flow N/S assembly and it comes with a lifetime warranty accl pump with new custom wound springs and pump seal.  You will also get the secondary cam/spring as well.....Cliff
