A screw was added to the front of the baseplate, next to the pcv port. Could you explain the purpose of the screw.

That carburetor used an early APT system.  The power piston has a steel post on it that engages with a piece in the baseplate with is adjusted up and down with the center screw. 

I like to modify those carburetors with an external screw when I build them here to provide full control of part throttle A/F from rich to lean without having to take the carb apart and change metering rods.....Cliff
