Those are excellent units, same carb I used on my own engines for over 40 years and never had a single issue with it.

May be heat related but keep in mind that a "low" compression 400 build with a 210/222 @ . 050" cam plus 2.56 gears isn't going to be much faster off the line than my garden tractor anyhow.  Hot/humid temps raise the DA and you loose a LOT more power.

If it's developing a hesitation/stumble or bog going quickly to full throttle you might want try tightening up the spring for the air flap shaft just a tad to see if it helps.......

Hi Cliff,
Thanks for responding, the carb is #17056274.  It's on a 76 Trans am 400 with TH350 & 2.73 rear gear.  6x-8 heads that Kauffman reworked but still at 7.9:1 running the crower 60240 cam.

What is the carburetor part number?

Application, engine/drivetrain/vehicle specs?....

I have a Cliff Qjet that he built for me years ago.  I don't drive it much but I've started driving it more in the summer.  The car runs well in cooler temps (<75 degrees outside) but once the ambient temp hits 80 and humidity is up, the car is a slug off the line.  Is the secondary spring set too light for hot weather or do you think it's something else?

Got them. Thanks!

What is the carburetor part number on the unit you plan on using?  Q-jets are application specific and some have a lot more idle fuel and idle bypass than others depending on when they were made and what they were used on.

With Vortec heads and no exhaust crossovers you are going to need a model that will convert to electric choke.

Nice engine build aside from the camshaft.  I am NOT a fan of those cams.  Not enough seat timing and LSA too tight.  They also have a bad habit of munching lobes so make sure that you use USA made lifters on it.  Comp has a bad habit of supplying springs with WAY too much pressure to keep those fast ramp lobes in check, which only grinds things up faster and sooner than they should.....

Dialing in your rebuilt Quadrajet carburetor / Re: Cold idle issues

Kenth- It is a HEI system. I have not checked voltage to coil. The distributor is new and was set up by  DUI before it was shipped for my engine, trans, rear end setup before it was shipped. Initial timing was set with the vacuum advance disconnected. I did not adjust idle screws with it in gear. I will check the voltage and set idle with trans in gear. Right now the car is getting exhaust put on it. I won't have to the car till Tuesday. I'll check those things then.

Von -It is electric.

What kind of choke actuation? If not electric, do you have an exhaust heat crossover in the intake or hot air tube from the exh manifold?

What type of ignition system? Does it have the correct voltage to coil?
Are your distributor springs too weak?
Do you set initial timing with vacuum advance disconnected?
Do you adjust mixture screws with A/T in gear?
