High idle after carb rebuild
« on: July 20, 2012, 09:36:44 AM »
Hey guys,

I recently rebuilt my carb (17058228) with Cliff's SR rebuild kit on my 1978 Corvette Pace Car with 20,200 miles. For some reason, it idles at 2,500. Before I rebuilt the carb, the car would idle around 1,500 and once it warmed up it would die around 1,100.

I did notice that one of the idle bleeder screw is bent. I tried adjusting those but it didn't really change the RPM's.

Anyone have any ideas? Could it have anything to do with the float not being measured correctly?

Thanks!

So I somewhat found the problem but then encountered another.

I believe what I circled in that picture is the fast idle...? Anyway, that was on top of that rod, which didn't allow the plates on the bottom to open. It couldn't move. I took the carb off and repositioned it.

After putting the carb back on the car, I started it and it redlines! I can't really mess with it when the car is started because it's as if I put the pedal to the floor. The pedal linkage isn't hooked up by the way, but you get what I'm saying! It's like gas is being poured into the motor.

I'm lost here, any advice?

06 couple of question? is the return spring hooked up? are the throttle plates all the way closed ?primary and secondary. is fuel running over in the carb causing it to over rev? i cant see your picture you posted .but i have an idea what you put on wrong.can you post a picture of the fast idle cam parts the way you have it now.dean
