Ok, I've read a thread about measuring the hanger from the place it rests to the "holes" or where the secondary rods hang.  But, hang tight!  Measuring from the top of the hole, center, or bottom of the hole?  that can make a reasonable difference!   

Second Q - The engine pulls 11 inches in park, and 9 inches of vacuum in D.  I'm supposed to base my carb rebuild on the 9 in Drive, correct? 

I've got a 73 challenger with a 340 bored .040 over built by Barnes and Reese (Jack Ingram's main engine builder during his championship years).  He rebuilt it to 1969 specs with higher compression ratio (shorter sealed power pistons), ported, polished, and shaved the heads (Up the compression a little more).  Did the valves.  Custom cam.  Balanced everything, and built it.  It still has the factory intake on it, and we had originally rebuilt the Holley (vintage) that came with the engine and trans that my mopar man pulled out of a 72 dart.  I want to remove the spacer and get that (10 mpg) holley off of it.  I was REALLY happy with the quadrajet that I rebuilt per cliffs book on my camaro, so I figured I do that for this one too.

i found a great casting 17056259 carb with an APT system on it.

Excellent carburetor for what you are doing.

I wouldn't really worry much about hanger height, the stock hanger is fine on that carburetor number, as are the CV metering rods for what you are doing, at least for a starting point.

I hoped you used one of our kits, with the upgraded Viton parts, HP accl pump assembly, and high flow needle/seat assembly.

We also sell a quick release choke pull-off for that carb number, and electric choke conversion.....Cliff

And may I ask another stupid question?  How are the parts better in your kits?  I understand it is probably daft to follow your book to a tee and put in a cheap kit, but for the exceedingly budget minded guy (me), just what different can I expect from yours and a, say, NAPA or OReilly kit? 

Just as a side note : I did read the description, and I see it comes with many more custom parts, but of the parts that are similar, what are the differences?

Our kits are application specific, with the highest quality gaskets in them.  We will add our .015" thicker main body to airhorn gaskets per request at no additional charge.

We will also put our .230 thick open carb to intake gasket in any kit per request at no additional charge.  This is usually required if the owner has installed an aftermarket or open plenum intake manifold to replace the stock one.

We include new springs and retainer with our accellerator pumps.

The accellerator pumps we use are the latest design, with a crimped on retainer to keep the shaft from pulling out of the body.

The seal is a much higher grade Viton part than the "soft" blue or black seals that come in over the counter kits.  It uses a garter spring to keep it against the pump bore, for maximum efficiency.

We include the high flow .135" fuel inlet seat in our kits, with Viton tipped needle.  We will substitute any size up to .149" at no additional charge.

We include a new plastic collar for the power piston in our kits.  You will NOT find that part in any other kit.

We include a float in our kit, no over the counter kit that I know of comes with one.

We also put a new filter and spring in our kits, no over the counter kit that I know of does this either.

Our basic kits are $34.95.  Add up the price of your cheap kit, float, filter/spring, and the fuel you used to go pick it up, and see if the "cheap" kit is really a bargain?

We also add tuning parts to our kits based on the application, and provide specific advice and technical assistance when needed.

Ask the purple haired kid with the bull-ring in his nose at OReilly's what jets and metering rods you need to use in your carburetor next time you buy some parts there.  I doubt if you'll get a good answer, but I'll bet $50 he can sell you a nice "fart pipe" for your car!.......Cliff
