Help rebuilding a 17082234 quadrajet
« on: August 27, 2013, 08:04:39 PM »
It is on an 1985 Chevy C10 1/2 ton, sbc 350, TH350 trans, performer intake, and RV/Towing cam.  Carb # is 17082234.  I purchased the parts through Cliff's and have been trying to follow Recipe #1.  So far no major issues but I checked the main air bleed which measured out to .120, so I resized it down to .070.  By accident I resized it down, but now after looking over the numbers, I should have resized it to .060.  Is this a problem or should this be resized down more?  I purchased a rebuild kit, #74 jets, 50M primary metering rods, DA secondary rods, and have a P hanger.  The fuel inlet seat Cliff sent is .130.  Also, when going through the other measurements, the accelerator pump discharge holes measure .073.  It looks as though they should be .026 - .028, what is the best way to size these down?  Should I possibly be building this carb according to one of the other recipes for my truck?  After reading the book, I felt that recipe #1 was my best bet for economy & power.   Any help would be great.

take a look down in the acc. discharge holes there down in there a ways and you might not be seeing the tiny hole . its hard to believe somebody would make them that large.

Is it not the holes with the straws on p.34 in Cliff's book? Or are there restrictions further down in the holes the straws lead to? I'm new to these carbs, so any help is great.

I took another look and the hole that I believe is the discharge hole in the air horn has no other restriction that I can see, and the channel it goes into leads to a slot on top of the air horn and is open just on the inside edge of the air cleaner gasket. With my very limited experience I pretty sure I am looking at the right holes, if not please help and correct me if I'm wrong.

Finally figured it out, I think. There are very small holes behind the back tip of the straws mentioned above, that are the acc. pump discharge holes. They are near impossible to see but there are holes there.
