1973 Buick Secondary Lockout

Hey there everyone. This is my first post. I usually troll around here and suck up the information on the forum. But I have a question that Cliff's book and the internet can't seem to give me.

I rebuilt the qjet on my 1973 350 Buick (appeared to be the first time ever)   Anyway after following the steps in the book I put it all back together. Then I noticed that the secondary throttle stop doesn't appear to have a way to back off. I've tried looking online, but most of the ones I've seen have the thermostatic choke mounted to the carb body, and not a divorced style with the front and rear pulloff.

To the point. I've found a pic of a carb that has a Spring that attaches to the throttle stop (2nd Pic Attachment). I know I didn't loose any of the pieces when rebuilding and am wondering if at some time it may corroded off or something.


The first Pic is of My carb, the 2nd is the only pic I've been able to find that shows a spring attached to it.

I'm just wondering if I'm missing the Spring or something. There isn't anything attached to the lockout. And that seems strange to me that it just hangs there and nothing disengages it.

The carb breakdown instructions I have in the rebuild kit are of little help, as they don't depict the style of Carb that I have.

I am sitting here looking at the same carb as you have (never been apart either) that I found in my "stash." It looks exactly like the one that you have. There is no spring. (so I know that you have put it together right) It looks exactly like the picture of yours.

Most of my builds are Buick carbs.  There is no spring on that lockout.  When the choke weight is down, it holds the lockout away from the secondary shaft.  I actually remove these from the majority of my builds to prevent any possible secondary lockout when not wanted.

i don't know when they started putting the spring on . I'm sure chiff would know . I'm looking at a 73 chey carb(7043202 )and it has the spring . it holds the tension to keep the high idle lever  tight to the screw. maybe its not supposed to be there.hopefully some one can tell us when they started this . my other thought was that somebody changed the base plate?
