warped carb, to start with, much more to come.
« on: February 24, 2015, 08:37:42 PM »
so finally started looking into dad's car I inherited about ten years ago. '68 chevelle. had carb problems since I can remember.
digging through trunk I found original carb 7028218. carb is completely dismantled, and I'm not sure what parts I even have for it. I do have the main body and air horn for sure. base plate looks like it may have been changed or just cleaned. base plate looks grey while body and air horn have yellowish shades on them( mostly grey though). the main body and air horn are warped approx 1/16", and I was just wondering before I go digging for the rest of the parts if this is repairable? I would prefer to use this carb as this is a numbers matching car, and I'd like to keep it as close to original as possible. for the time being, I will find another carb to rebuild, but if I can eventually get this one as close to perfect as possible, I'd like to. or is it scrap due to the warpage?
will be many more questions to come if it's fixable, slightly less if I toss it and find a different one. I do have your book and have read it a few times, but it's currently in Texas with the father in law. I also have a couple other quads here to practice with, as I've never really played much with these. mainly small engine carbs. thx in advance.

most all of the carbs can be fixed ,you just have to take your time . I've straightened air horns but never fuel bowls. you need to go real slow when you straighten the air horn . pot metal doesn't like fast movements. id keep the carb for later work ,you can buy all the internals and make it like new .fwiw

I should have mentioned that I won't try to straighten it, I was wondering if it could be done by cliff if I sent it in. I would have him rebuild entire thing if possible. and recolor it.

We can straighten them out, and/or machine all the parts flat so they seal up fine together....Cliff
