Fuel Inlet Fitting Help

Hello all! 

This is my first post and have a bit of a problem.  My car is a 1967 Camaro and I am having a problem connecting the metal 5/8” fuel line fitting to a remanufactured Quadrajet carburetor from AutoLine (purchased through RockAuto).  I don't see any ID numbers or I would post those to help.

The AutoLine fitting is smaller on both ends.  its the black one in these pictures an seems to have a taper to it.  Is there a fitting available that will accept the 5/8” line?   







I have the original carburetor (which I will be rebuilding) and the fitting is bigger on on both ends of the original.  Thanks,

what you have is a poor mans way of fixing bad inlet threads. thats a self tapping connector thats supposed to fix your problem . the early carbs had 7/8 inlet with the seal on the outside like yours has . the later carbs have 1"threads with the seal on the bottom . i dont know if the early ones had a 5/8 internal thread most were a little smaller. ill look through my junk tonight and see if i can find some thing . that what happens when you buy a (rebuilt carb ) they do whatever they can to get them out the door and then the problem becomes yours . if you screw that fitting in and out a few times to change the filter they usually will leak and then strip again and you have more problems.the altimate fix would be to install a 1inch helicoil and make it to the new style. fwiw

i don't know if they still make them they probably do I've got 2 with the big  fuel inlet and 1 with the small like you have. they've been in my toolbox for 30 years . if i could post a picture i would but a 5 year old could post it faster .5year olds post pictures and i work on carbs. fwiw

Thanks for the info.  Looks like I'm going to have to hunt for a proper fitting tomorrow

 Get the original one rebuilt and get your money back with the Autoline carb. Reman carbs are full of inferior parts and will simply make the car run like CRAP. Especially trying to adjust the carb to work, will put a lot of grey hairs on your head.

 Do yourself a favor, when you get the money back from the reman carb, buy the kit and correct parts for the original carb from Cliff. None better!

The only good repair is to install a heli-coil and put an OEM style 7/8"-20 fuel filter housing back on the carb.

+2, 3 and 4 on those commercially "remanufactured" carburetors, they are complete JUNK at this point, I don't even want to see one in my shop for rebuilding......Cliff

Good plan.  I just broke my own rules and completely rebuilt and restored a commercially remanufactured q-jet for a customer because it sported the correct number for his application.  I'm now getting it back for the second time, and about ready to throw it in the dumpster and start over.  This NEVER-EVER happens with an original unit.  They just "butcher" up those reman's so much these days it makes them nearly impossible to get working correctly no matter how much effort you put into them!!!!!......Cliff
