Is this the real thing ? 7042270
« on: January 09, 2016, 05:53:32 PM »
A friend of mine was offered a 7042270 that he needs for his 72 GTO restoration.  He's afraid it might be a restamp so he showed me those pics that were given to him by the seller.  I honestly can't say if it is real or not, as I'm no specialist with those rare carbs.  The stamping does look strange indeed but then again, I've seen factory original regular quadrajets with awful stampings.

I tell you what, Frank, that stamping looks legitimate to me. I am not expert by any means, but numbers sure correlate with gang stampers that Rochester used. At least to me. Have you tried on the Performance Years forums?

Good idea.  Thanks, by the way.  Frank.

The main casting looks correct,  not a re-stamp.  The airhorn is incorrect for a 1972 Pontiac carburetor, it's from 69 or 70......Cliff
