Hot Air Blockoff
« on: February 28, 2018, 08:18:33 AM »
I'm getting ready to convert to electric choke and wondering how to block off the intake port where the hot air tubes go thru to the exhaust passage.  This is for a 1976 Pontiac cast iron intake, I would use the existing part with the upper tubes removed but I can't find a gasket for it.  Or I could make a block off plate and make a gasket out of high temp gasket material.  Any thoughts?

The lower part shouldn't need any gasket, but I have seen exhaust type gaskets used here...

I would personally just reinstall it, and not give it a worry unless it leaks.

I cannot recall if the felpro full gasket kit even provides anything for this spot...

The original one had a gasket but it came out in pieces.  I ended up making a block off plate by cutting and grinding some steel I had around.  I made the gasket out of the exhaust crossover block off material that came with the intake gasket.  I tried to add a picture but file size too large?
