Kit Confusion - Which Air Horn Gasket?
« on: June 16, 2018, 12:48:08 PM »
69 Buick Carb 29240MD on a 70 Pontiac 350

Kit came with 2 air horn gaskets, looked identical except thickness.

I used the one labeled 2165 which appeared thicker than the 2722.

Why are there 2, what would determine which I should use, did I choose wrong?

If both gaskets are exactly the same as the one you took off except for thickness, the thicker one is possibly used to correct for warping of the airhorn. Warping happens when hold down bolts are over tightened and can cause air leakage between the castings. Besides Band-Aid fixes like thicker gaskets it's best to straighten, sand, or flat file flat the airhorn gasket surface. Good luck.

There are several gaskets that look almost the same, but there will be a hole or two in a little different location.

Thanks to both

No difference in holes, so I'm going with qjetsrule

Carb is not warped, but guess I didn't hurt anything

For most of those older units we use the 2165 as it seals up better than the thinner one......Cliff
