Look for a Plant Code and Julian Date.
They made those is Service Replacement so many will not have a Plant Code and dated later than the 1972 model year......

Plant code are two letters stamped right after the application number, 7042270.
Julian date, four digits, last digit is the year and the three ahead is the day that year it´s made, is stamped beneath the plant code.

After 7042270 is XG. Then under that is 0242.

Having a Plant Code and dated 1972 is a good find. Might want to clean that one up and offer it for sale. Someone may be looking for one for the 1972 Pontiac 455 HO project.......

If it "looks like heck" most likely it will need restored, so expensive.
I'd sell it as-is if that's the case.
There are several Pontiac Forums you can join and list parts for sale. Performance Years is a good one.
You can also list it on this Forum in the For Sale section....

It's a valuable carb, but not a lot of folks looking for those. I've moved a few thru here, but not recently and got good money for them. I also sat on them quite a while.
It's not just about the part number, the Julian Date also has to work for the buyer to be correct for the engine/vehicle where it is going to end up at......
