Rookie Q jet guy, a couple questions before I order
« on: February 09, 2012, 08:30:53 AM »
Cliff, I have a few questions before I order. I have a 455 with 6x-4 heads, what looked like a .030 over cast flat top piston with 4 reliefs, a performer intake, 1 3/4" headers, a Tomahawk HEI and a mystery cam. I'm assuming the cam is reasonably mild, it had log manifolds on it when i bought it. I bought the engine as a runner {long story} and i'm tossing it in my GTO until i get a chance to rebuild it right. Anyhow It came with a 7043262 Q jet. I'm wondering.......

1. Assuming its functional and complete, is this a good carb for a quick rebuild for this mild 455

2. Since i'm not sure about what I even have in the engine, i'm thinking i'm going to buy your standard $35 rebuild kit to freshen this up just to get it running and go from there. I'm also going to order an electric choke to eliminate the hot air stuff. Is there anything else you would recommend as a standard part to order to get this carb going? It seems to be pretty clean and complete. Definitely not beat up or missing anything. Any extra parts i should consider that are trouble on these??

Excellent carburetor for the 455, I used the same on my old 428 for many years.  Just call the shop when you are ready for parts, and we'll fix you up with what you need...thanks....Cliff
