Can these idle tubes be re used?
« on: September 09, 2012, 11:51:20 PM »
Hi guys

I'm currently rebuilding my Quadrajet according to Cliff's book. It is a 7028244 (1969 Buick 430).  So I stripped the whole thing and pulled the idle tubes using a screw to engage the collar.

When I pulled the right hand tube it slipped, and when I screwed in again the brass started to deform some. For the left hand side I used a too tiny screw, and engaged the tube itself, pulling it out of the collar. This one also got bent slightly on the tip.  I did heat the surrounding casting on both, but I think the minitorch I used was less effective than I thought.

So my question is if these tubes can be reused if I dress the collar and ream the damaged part of the tube it self on the top. I imagine it would be the same as drilling down the tubes as described in the book.

Pictures explain it better:

I'd replace them as they need to have a good seal between the collar and tubes.....Cliff
