Sticky secondaries
« on: September 15, 2012, 01:50:05 PM »
So I have been having troubles with my secondaries hanging just slightly (which is plenty here in the traffic!!) after I open it up a bit. It wont seem to do it when im in park, but when driving it does it quite often. I just finished the rebuild on it, and I dont see anything that looks like it could stick on physically. But after a run, I can come back, push the lower secondary arm forward, and it idles right back down. I took the airfilter off for the last run to be 100% sure it wasnt that hanging something up. Any guesses where to start with this. Also the shafts were good on this, so none of that or the secondary spring were touched in the rebuild. With 450 hp on tap and manual drums.......its pretty scary here when there is tons of traffic right out of the driveway.

DO THE SECONDARIES HANG WITH THE THROTTLE LINKAGE DISCONNECTED? DO THE SECONDARIES HANG WITH THE CARB REMOVED FROM THE INTAKE? SOME BASE GASKETS HAVE TO BE TRIMMED. SOMETIMES THE GASKET BETWEEN THE CARB BASE AND CARB BODY CAN OVERHANG AND CAUSE THE SECONDARIES TO HANG UP. GOOD LUCK

Too much glue on the bottom plugs putting pressure against the baseplate when the screws are tightened up will cause this as well.....Cliff
