1968 buick 430 carb question
« on: August 28, 2013, 02:34:08 PM »
Have a lightly modded (pertronix ignitor dual flowmasters open element aircleaner etc.) 68 electra with a rebuilt 430. It has the correct carb on it but is using the primary rods .45 and secondary rods AY from a 1969 carb. I have a bit of a ping on upshift occasionally. I know the original settngs called for slightly richer primary rod .43 using the same .70 jet but seemingly much richer secondary rods BG. I cannot locate these rods anywhere and the local carb shop says they are no longer available.

My questions are
1. Am I leaving potential power on the table using the existing settings? And is it even worth going through all this troublem
2. Is there a rod and hanger option that can get pretty close to the original settings?

Thank you for your time.

We probably have the BG rods in spare parts, or can machine a set on the lathe to the same size....Cliff
