gday from australia
« on: January 11, 2014, 12:36:45 AM »
hi everyone im dave from australia,i just found this forum and had to join it,i have a qjet on my daily driven 1973 holden "premier"ive owned for 30 years,it has a holden 308 with slight modifications including bosch electronic ignition, performer manifold and larger valves with decent headers and an old sig erson tq20 camshaft, and off course it has the factory but altered qjet.
it runs really well,i bought the doug roe rochester book about 25 years ago and still have it,ive just ordered cliffs book as i think as the years have gone by these carbs have really been disected now and id like a more modern take on them.
the holdens here had the tick the box chevrolet v8 option from 1968,the 307 or the 327 was available then, this was before holden had its own v8 the 253 and 308 ready, like the 307 the 253 got a two barrel but it was the stromberg ww2 model, the 307 and 327 options got dropped in 1969 and you could tick the 350 chevy box then on selected models, like the 327 these of course had the qjet so we have seen them for a few years here, like in the states most got junked for a holley?now they can command good prices and are never found in junk yards.
our emissions wernt as strict as yours as early,we didnt even have a charcoal box till 1974,then by the 80s we had all the restrictive stuff on carbed cars untill fuel injection became the norm, the later little 253 v8s also got the qjet.
so just thought id let you all know a little of downunders qjet history.

ps re those three questions before i could post,we spell tires as tyres here!cheers.

just out of interest the hq also was available in station wagon and two door, aswell as style side pick up and panel van.

the coupes here now command high prices, you can just see a "ute"(utillity)in the back ground, this is just a photo i found on the net.
