Idle issue when shifting into gear
« on: August 20, 2014, 04:39:14 AM »
Cliff,

I am having issues when I go from idle in park / neutral and shift into drive.

You rebuilt my Jet carb back in 2009.  The carb dynoed and ran perfect with the old combo which was:
71 Pontiac GTO - Original Ram Air car
462
9.5:1
Speed Pro 1175 cam 224/234 @ .050  112 LSA 1.5 rockers
Stock intake
Ram air exhaust w/2.5" Pypes system
10" Continental Jim Hand special behind a 200r4
3:42 gears
103 mph in the 1/4 mile

July 2012 - Installed bigger cam - TC-HC02 236/244 @.050 on 112 LSA 1.5 rockers
Modified the intake similar to yours
Now the car would run 109 mph in the 1/4 mile much more top end.
CARB STILL RAN PERFECT - Could idle in drive right down to 650 rpm if needed.
RPM loss going into drive with both combo's above was less than 100 rpm.

Aug. 2014 - Removed heads - had .025 milled to increase compression from 9.5 to 10:1.
Also cut down center divider on my intake by .5" under the secondaries only.
Really seems to have lost throttle response also.
Now when shifting into drive I seems I lose both vacuum and my idle, wants to kill.

Idea's on possible solutions???

Confirmed timing is correct - 36 degrees total all in by 2800, no vacuum leaks.

Thanks - 71 Goatman

Cutting down the divider may have an impact here, can't see where you've done anything else that would effect idle quality?.....Cliff
