Quad Started Running Very Rich
« on: July 05, 2015, 09:45:42 AM »
I have a 7044283 Marine Carb.  Ran fine, next day started running very rich.  Consumption on my Floscan went from 1.5 GPH, which is normal at idle, to 5.0.  Plugs going black in a very short time.  Carb was rebuilt last year.  Fuel pressure is 6 PSI.  Installed new float needle and seat and checked float level, problem still exists. Swapped carb from my Starboard engine and runs perfectly.  Floscan reads zero GPH when engine not running and electric fuel pump on, so I am convinced the float needle and seat are holding.  Not sure what to try next.

Could be trash in the carb.  I'd try running it empty then let it re-fill.  This may "wash" any debris from the needle/seat assembly.

I would also recommend getting one of our kits if you end up going back into it, they are the most complete in this industry, and have the correct parts, and ethanol compatible.....Cliff

@ nautigal-

could you tell me what engines your running, I'm curious what a "normal'  GPH is at idle.

I know i'm using more than you at idle.- I have twin engine config and burn about 5-6( both engines total)at idle pushing the boat at 5 knts. flowscan tells my 1.00 ( sometimes .9)  miles per gallon. thus if you were burning 1.5 per engine at idle, times 2 would be 3 gallons total and made 5 knts at idle you'd be closer to 1.7.
