Float saturated?
« on: August 24, 2015, 07:25:01 PM »
Rebuild my 17056200 with one of "Cliffs" kits and have been running it for roughly three years. I used cliff's third recipe in his book. It is on a SB355. For the most part, it has been a good runner. It is now starting to flood and stall the engine after a hard run. It will start up after turning over the engine and the pedal to the floor. If I made a hard stop for a traffic light that turned red, it will load up and feel like it is going to stall.
Wondering if this could be the float getting saturated and sinking? Is a three year life normal now for a float with today's fuels.  I checked my float level and set it to the factory spec's. As far as I could tell, everything else looked OK. Also, stock style fuel pump with no regulator.
I would replace the needle and seat as well if I were to replace the float.
Thanks in advance.
Phil

You could do the vacuum test with the n/s assy. I like to attach the vacuum pump to the fuel inlet and test the entire thing. (as shown in the book) My carb didn't pass the test and had found the the seat assy. loosened up ever so slightly. tightened it back down and all is well.
