Well, a problem that happend a few weeks ago before I disassembled the carb (for the 3th time..)
It started when I was testing my engine. Short pulls 3/4 throttle up to 4000 and 4500 rpm. At first the engine was picking up better and better but after about 6 or 7 pulls when deaccelerating the engine was tunning like it was on 5 cilinders or less. Got back to the garage and pulled out a spark plug, all black (not oily). So to much fuel or to little air. Started the engine again, under 2000 rpm she run very bad and above it was a little better. To cut things short, removed the airfilter, run a little better but then I saw the fuel was at the top of the carb. Quickly stopped the engine and the fuel started to drain. Restarted and the fuel was getting up very quickly.
The thing is, I compleetly rebuild the carb with Cliff's book, Doug's book and my 81 Corvette service manual for setting the E4ME things. Vacuumtested Cliff's new little bigger needle and seat for 1 or 2 minutes, was perfect then. I installed it with the steel shim under the seat and the hook on the needle connected the right way to the float (so it's not stuck in the openings). The float was also set to the correct height.
So my question is, I know the hook can also be left off but could it cause this problem and are there other things I need to consider? For example, can the hinge of the float be lifted (because the float is lifted incorrectly) so the needle will be off center in the seat?
Not that I have the carb open I want to put pressured air (equal psi to my standard fuel pump) to the fuel connection and slowly pour fuel into the bowl and see what happens. (if the needle will close the air off or if I will see bubbles.) Is this a good idea to check this?
