I am wondering if there is some sort of a master list somewhere which spells out original GM part numbers vs metering rod identifiers.
EG: 34B (170 series) vs #979345678
I am not against buying more reference material.
I have Master Parts Catalogs which lists jets and metering rods;
To date, I have understood that essentially the last two digits of the jet part number denotes the jet size - which makes things pretty easy to decipher.
I have not noticed any sort of list which gives me a cross reference for either 70 or 170 series metering rod identifiers vs original part numbers.
If it matters;
1) I am a Firebird guy.
2) I have a late 1974 printing of the 1967-1975(6) Firebird MPC, as well as a 1982(?) printing of the 1977-1981 Pontiac (all models) MPC.
3) I am putting together a 1978 Rochester (17058276) for my brother, who recently purchased a 1978 Trans Am.
He took this '78-276 carb apart many, many years ago, and aside form the three main sections that I saved from the trash bin, pretty much all the small stuff has been lost;
I am using a complete unrebuilt 1977 Rochester (17057274) as the donor carb;
4) I have a small stash of various sized rods and jets - but most of my stuff is for the earlier "70" series of quadrajets
5) I already observed that the '77-274 carb has jets one size bigger than the MPC indicates it should have had, and was hoping to correctly match jets/rod combinations for this '78-276 carb.
If I cannot find this info, I will opt to simply leave the jet/rod combination from the donor carb, as these are both for non-W72 Pontiac 400's with the automatic.
I may use the '77-274 base plate, as the '78-276 baseplate has been stripped bare. The two base plates appear to be identical except for the presence of an extra vacuum feed on the '78-276 base plate.
I am guessing that the main bodies of the two carbs are identical, but I have noticed that the top plates, err, airhorns are slightly different above the fuel inlet (I am guessing it was a cost savings revision).
If I need to buy some sort of catalog, please point me in the correct direction - thanks!!
