17080513 and a 17080213
« on: April 25, 2023, 09:49:40 AM »
Im in the process of rebuilding the 17080213 I got off ebay, real clean carb no rust or corrosion

Then Ill rebuild the 17080513 original carb still on my '81 chevy K20 truck (calif truck)

Both carbs will be for the '81 chevy K20 pickup

Got the 213 carb pretty clean and apart, Cliff has a order for parts.

Which is my Ported vacuum for Distributor vacuum advance on both these carbs?

The original factory vacuum line diagram sticker on the air filter housing shows distributor vacuum line off the rear port on the carb same as the rear choke take off line. That would be non ported vacuum.

The motor in this truck is a 1973 4 bolt 350, flat top pistons about 9.5-1 compression / heads 1970 441 heads 1.94in/1.50ex valves / doug thorley headers / Elgin prostock E1069P cam .

Cam specs:
Cam lift .295 both int,exh / valve lift .443 both int,exh / duration 280 both int,exh / duration @ .050 214 both int,exh / lobe centers: int 105, exh 115 (separation 110)

Any tips on carb jets and rods for this truck and motor..... I want best fuel mileage performance. I dont have to smog check this truck anymore, I moved to Idaho in America

Any other tips?  Oh,, I do have Cliffs Book now. Been years since I rebuilt the Q jet

Thanks

I've got a 17080212 and am keen to read any answers to the jet / rod question.

Some units of that era has no ported source for the vacuum advance.
Some have an EGR port that can be used instead, but you´ll need to plug the small bleed-off hole in the cavity with a small set-screw.
Calibration in this 350 HD Truck carb is plenty generous and can be used as-is, but the secondary rods are somewhat lean, go for a set of DA and you´ll be done.
