17085226

I have 3 of these  17085226 carbs with the electric APT solenoid where they later stuck the idle control solenoid in the CCC carbs.
My question is are these good carbs to use, and do you have to leave the solenoid in it, (because it also has the APT screw for the power valve), or can you remove it and plug the hole in the base and the related passage going to the main jets? And if you can do that, is there a cover that you can buy to plug the hole in the air horn where the solenoid stuck out so it doesn’t look like a CCC carb?
I thought I had seen a picture of a carb that had a cover that looked just like the cone shape on previous models that didn't use the solenoid.

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

The function of the solenoid in the 17085226 is "Dual Capacity Pump".

You may just remove it and size the pump jets in airhorn accordingly.

Those are good carbs other than the ugly a** solenoid coil up top and
the rear pull-off.
Remove the dual shot valve and solder the bottom shut. OR, if it doesent
leak thru just leave it alone. without power to the solenoid coil it does
nothing.

Ok, so what actually controlled this dual capacity pump and what exactly does it do?
Is it something that you can make work for you easily enough?

1985/86 Q-jets in U.S. trucks have dual capacity pump.
When engine is cold, more fuel is needed for transition from idle to part-throttle.
When engine is warm less is required.
Dual pump solenoid is activated by coolant temperature sensor.
AT 170 °F pump solenoid energizes, dual capacity pump valve opens and pump capacity reduces by about one-half.

Sounds like a pain in the *** to try and use on anything other than what it came from.

Not really, just unhook the connector and it will work just fine like any Quadrajet.
