Original factory jets and rods
« on: January 12, 2012, 05:03:05 PM »
I purchased a 68 GTO and the carb had been changed.   It has a quadajet #17054911.  I am having hesitation problems when I go WOT and the secondaries start opening.  I have gone through it twice with no luck.  Without knowing what has been changed over the years, I want to go back to factory for the starting point.  So can anyone tell me the factory jets and rod sizes for this carb?  I also saw a thread on the site saying that the 17054911 was an SD carb.  Is this true and is it really an 800cfm?

Thanks!

Correct, the 17054911 is a Service Replacment for the 455 SD engines.

The SD carburetors were set up with quite a few different calibrations.  They always act a tad lean and need recalibrated to work correctly.  What jets and metering rods are in the carburetor?

If you are having secondary transition "issues", first order of business is to replace the secondary plastic cam and spring.  I would also test the choke pull-off opening rate, some were pretty slow and can cause a delay or stumble when going quickly to full throttle.

Also check the POE system and make sure the well fill holes aren't plugged up.

Might want to try bending the secondary hanger up slightly, or finding a taller one.....Cliff
