"A" vs. "M" metering rod
« on: January 09, 2012, 10:02:08 AM »
I'm working w/a 17086047 Q-jet from a '86 4.3L V6 (GMC Sierra), non CCC/non electronic carb. It will be used on a Chevy 3.8L (aka 229 cid) V6.

In looking it over, it has 74 jets and 55M rods. How does that sound as a starting place for a stock cammed 3.8L V6? I realize this may be outside your area of interest :-[, so I understand if you have 'no comment'.

Thanks.

The title above is a mistake, I misread an "M" as an "A". I'll ask about the difference in the suffix letters in a separate thread.

The "M" series primary rods have .010" taper on the upper section.  The 55M rods will taper from .055" to .045".  This is the amount of adjustment available with the APT system.

That jetting should be fine for the application.  At most you may need to go up one jet number for this new fuel.....Cliff
