Have to Prime the Carb on Every Cold Start
« on: December 08, 2012, 08:49:41 PM »
I rebuilt my 800cfm Q-Jet with one of Cliff's HP kits. It works great, except for the fact that I have to prime the carb on every cold start to get it to run. Could this be because of the Windowed Seat allowing the fuel to to escape when the engine isn't running?

Fuel bowl is empty.  The only way it's going to be empty is leaking bottom plugs, or evaporation.  A "windowed" seat wouldn't allow the bowl to drain out.....Cliff

I also understand that if the diaphram in the fuel pump is tired or has a hole it will allow the fuel in the line and in bowl to be sucked back to the pump, emptying the bowl out.  If you have a rubber hose feeding the fuel inlet, after you run the car, clamp off the fuel inlet hose and then when you start in a day or so, unclamp and see what happens.
