How to Remove Air Flap Spring? 17057274
« on: March 31, 2013, 12:53:28 PM »
I want to make sure I am reading Cliff's book correctly.  Is this the right procedure to remove the air flap spring?

1. remove air flaps
2. remove air flap shaft.
3. remove spring.

Is there any way to remove the air flap spring and leave the air flaps and shaft in place?

The spring can be changed without removing the shaft.  The shaft should be removed to install a new plastic cam, we recommend replacing both parts at the same time.....Cliff

yeah they can be removed without the shaft removal.........do you remember that kids game called "operation"...if you were good at that, you'll be fine.....have a cold beer before and after, it seems to help. (that darn little spring can be frustrating!) LOL!

Yep, I remember the game Operation and I replaced the spring without a beer!!  That's good for me.  Actually is was a easy task.

Cliff, my carb has a metal cam.  I don't know the history of the carb or where the cam came from.  We talked about this when I ordered parts.  :)

To date I've never seen a secondary cam that was made of metal, all have been plastic.....Cliff
