bying new carb

I HAVE HAD IT !!!!  I'M BYING A NEW ONE!!!! 
 Now how the heck do I find a new one ?

Seriously, Carb tuning and messing around with old stuff requires great patience. The learning curve is long. That is why Cliff started this forum, to share knowledge and to shorten the curve a little bit.

If you have the ability and tools to rebuild a carb, you should be able to tune it. It takes some trial and error, much note taking, and time, but believe me, once you get a Q-jet dialed in, nothing can beat it [on the street].

 I have been working on this for to long, the elephant is gone.
 I can't get this to idle.
 It barely starts when cold, it will not run at low RPM's even after its warmed up.
 it's not the choke.
 It's not the timing.
 It's the carb.
 I have learned a lot on this project from all the problems that have popped up. I've had this apart enough.
 I don't know it's history I bought it cheep after I bought cliff's book and thought that any acceptable carb could be repaired.

 I would like to stay with the Quadrajet because of its design but this time I want one that I know is correct from the start.
 I would like some direction on buying a new one.

Rough idle, no idle/stalls? What specifically is the problem with the carb at idle? Do you know for sure that you have no vacuum leaks?  W

What engine do you have? What PCV Valve/system do you have? Carb number? Cam specs? Did you check the idle tubes for restrictions/crud? How does it run off-idle? EGR valve equipped?  What carb base gasket are you using? [one from Cliff's kits?]

This forum is very powerful at solving problems, give us a shot.....

I just can't seem to let this go yet.
 I think I'll start over at the begining and get more new gaskets and see if that helps.

Some details about the carb and engine set-up would help?

If you aren't getting a good end result, something is not right with the calibration, parts, or incorrect installation, etc.....Cliff

I am sorry I have not replied but a floor joist broke in my kitchen on Tuesday. I will be tearing the carb down after it's fixed. I am sure I will need some input and will provide the spec's then.   Thanks give me about a week. K.E.N.
