Rebuilt carb 17057253 Hot issue
« on: July 27, 2015, 04:57:59 PM »
Hi Cliff, I've been running a 17057253 carb and it's been just great except a few instances that I turn it off and it sits for 5- 15 min. . When I start it and take off under normal throttle it seems fine but is I try to get on it ,it will die out and come back . It does this in hotter temps around 80 + . It starts up good and will accelerate fine for the most part . But falls off when near WOT . I'm running a 455/30 over/w/performer and 6x4 heads . I'm guessing to much heat on the carb ? Any suggestions on what to try ? The carb has been rebuilt and is working in all the rest of my driving but this issue . Thanks

What size fuel inlet seat are you using in it?

What is the fuel delivery system?....Cliff

I'm sure it's a short one ,The guy that rebuilt said he liked to use that with a mesh type filter (Marine type?) with an inline filter also, and I have the 3 outlet F/pump mechanical . It's been running so good I thought it was all set until it got hotter weather and it's only under certain conditions it acts up .

The inline gas filter I installed has at least a couple inch space from anything and room all around for air but if there's something I could use for added insulation I could add it ?

The Marine filter is to short unless you are using a short filter housing on that carburetor?

What size fuel inlet seat was installed in the carburetor during the rebuild?

If the kit came from us, it will be the high float N/S assembly.  From a parts store, it will be WAY too small for what you are doing.....Cliff

Thanks Cliff , I'll take this info w/me when I talk to the rebuilder , I think he said it was the short housing that was on the carb . I'm not sure of what kit he uses on his rebuilds other than he has assured me that they are quality parts ! But I'll be taking it to him soon for a final test drive and check the settings so I'll check on this info for sure . Thanks Cliff.

Problems from heat soak may not be the same issue as falling off at WOT.

Heat soak problems go away when things cool off, or may not be present till after shut-down, then a restart within half hour or so.

Sucking the bowl dry on hard runs may simply be that the N/S assembly is too small.

If your "builder" used any over the counter kit, it's going to have the small N/S assembly in it.......Cliff

At this point it seems to be strictly a heat issue . I haven't had any noticeable bog while reg driving and WOT but this helps with this info . This carb has run well from the start . Thanks Cliff.
