and what's the difference between manual an automatic version of this carburator
Can I put an automatic one on my 4 speed car
1705 8276 instead of an original 1705 7263
 but I need both throttle shaft to make those running properly

 Welcome to CHP!

 You might have to source a core 17057263 Qjet sadly. There are differences in the linkage of the throttle shaft, between M/T and A/T cars, but can be interchanged on the car. Like a M/T Qjet on a A/T car and vise-versa. Cliff would be best to answer, so try calling the shop.:)

I think the only difference would be lack of the kick down or TV cable lever on the manual one.

 What about eBay? Try checking on there for a late '70s Buick, Olds and Pontiac Qjet.

I am asking a lot of question :( , can I switch base plate from another Pontiac q-jet to fit my 17058276 so with another base plate, or  I can take the shaft of the base plate and put them on my carb or just simply switch the base plate assembly from a 'donor' one , and my engine is a w72 so I dont know if the carb is a special one juste for the w72 engine, or any 1705 thing carb made for 400 engine will fit!?

I would like to call to Cliff's Shop for parts or rebuild quote for my original 17057263 but I'm a french canadian so I'm not speaking English very well (big french canadian accent) loll so writing is alot easier for me!

Other thing my q-jet have no serial on it so I'm not really sure about is number (I take the number of the carb supposed to be on this car)

And I have Cliff book for rebuilding

I doubt it, the older style & newer style don't interchange, same with just the throttle shafts.

I know what you mean about these being hard to source.

I had been collectimg any Pontiac core carb I could get - and it seems as though right now they are hard enough to find, that I have actually been selling my Pontiac (and other) carbs as rebuildable cores for local guys who cannot source non-edelbrock manufactured units...

I observed this past week when trying to (re)assemble a 78-400 carb for my brother that the base plates were different between W72 and non-W72 carbs.
(yours is a 'W72' carb)
The differences can be subtle, but they are there.
I compared an automatic W72 carb with an automatic non-W72 carb.

Your donor carb is a 78 non-W72 unit.

I would guess that the throttle shaft would only differ between mt and auto aplications in the absence or presence of provisions for the TH350 kickdown - which in your case should be no problem.
I do not believe that there is any difference between any 1975-1978 Pontiac 400/455 carb other than my previous assertion.

I would suggest either finding a good core (unmodified) carb to use in place of your 77-mt carb, or to swap the throttle shaft like you initially asked about.
Just be sure to grind dilown the flared ends of the butterfly screws before attempting to back out - I have seen first hand people repeatedly breaking these screws because they didn't realize they were flared.

I currently have examples of carbs for 1969-1978 Pontiac 400/455 applications, and even a really rare 74-GTO(automatic) carb - but my "collection" would pale in comparison to a shop.
I can go out and double check my collection to compare 75-78 throttle shafts, but I am confident enough to not feeling the need to look.

Long time no see.

Ive been on a ls swap in the last year so my carb has left on the shelf. I think the easy way to replace my throttle shaft is to swap them, I will try to find a Qjet base plate or core and remove the shaft from it and install them in my 17057263. When I was looking in my shed where all my spare part are. I found on my spare engine w72 with auto trans, (i bought it from a guy 10-15 years ago) a 17058276 Qjet...in part. I immediately looked for the throttle shaft, and the screws are all broken in it. (im pretty sure he tried to remove it without buffing it...) so now Im stuck with two w72 carb an auto and manuel one.

so im looking for 2 set of shafts..... :'(

The throttle shafts are exactly the same except cars with TH350's have an addition provision for the kick-down cable.

The TH400 carburetors were the same as the ones used for the manual transmission carburetors for 350 and 400 engines from 1975 to 1979.

Broken off screws aren't a big deal, we see LOTS of them here, and are pretty good at getting them out w/o damaging the shafts......Cliff
