Decode -- help, please...
« on: July 15, 2018, 08:41:30 AM »
My Quadrajet is stamped with 7040507 and a date code 1457.

Various sources on the Internet say 7040507 decodes to a 1970 Chevrolet Camaro, Chevelle, Corvette, Nova; SBC 350; manual transmission; California/High Altitude.

My question is about the date code. Does it decode to 145th day of 1967?  That seems too early for a 1970 application.

Looking forward to your input.

Thank you.

99% sure it's 145th day of 1977, replacement carb bought over the counter for 1970 chevy 350, California application.

Ok. That makes sense to me. Thanks for your help. Hope to begin disassembly of it this week.

The "507" is most likely going to be the CA version of the "207" which was used on the 350hp engines with the manual transmission, not the 300hp......nice carb.....Cliff

Thank you, Cliff.

I am considering a rebuild of this carb for use on the nearly-stock ‘78 SBC 350 with TH350 that I have in my ‘66 Chevy II 100 Series station wagon. The non-stock components are Edelbrock 2701 EPS Performer dual plane intake and 1406 AFB. I know I will need a spacer to mate square bore intake to spread bore carb. At this point I’m reading about the Q-jet here on your forums and in the several GM service manuals I have in hand.

That carb will do fine in that application.  I would recommend our SR rebuild kit for it.  It will have everything required to do a complete/correct rebuild and get it up to par for this new fuel......Cliff

The postal carrier delivered my copy of your book today, Cliff. My immediate impression is the color photography is the best I've seen in these types of book.  8)
