Hello All,
First post and recent new owner of a 67 Firebird 400 (TH 400 trans).
It's currently fitted with an Edelbrock 1406 carb fitted by the PO and uses an adaptor plate with the original Pontiac intake manifold. The car was fully restored approx 10 years ago and has not been used much since, v'clean condition.
The problem is, the carb seems to not have been fully dialed in. The butterflies don't fully open at full throttle (adjustment is maxed out), the throttle linkage on the carb doesn't contact the kick down switch, the car seems to run 'flat', no real kick in the pants when gunned and it burns a LOT of fuel.
Here's my question, rather than taking the time/effort of dialing in the Edelbrock, I could just replace with a quadrajet. I have the option to purchase a quadrajet core in decent condition (7043244) with mechanical choke. Is this a good candidate unit (with the relevant Cliffs rebuild kit) unit to use as a replacement?
Thanks in advance. Guy
