Considering 2004-r Transmission rebuild, advise welcome
« on: December 12, 2018, 04:24:00 PM »

I am leaning towards replacing a 2 speed power glide in my fathers Vette, with a 2004r from the junk yard. I am aware Cliff's book on overdrive transmissions is focused towards the 7004r.. Tho I am imagining it will still be helpful in a general sense.

I guess my major question is: is this beyond the scope of a shade tree enthusiast? Any and all suggestions welcome, as well as questions that I have not known to ask.

My main interest is to finish with a reliable transmission, and have the satisfaction  and confidence that I understand how it works.

I replaced a t350 with a 2004r in a 1972 Chevelle/ 383 stroker/Quadrajet....I built it myself using a ATSG manual and video(vcr) LOL...it was a excellent upgrade having overdrive and a better first gear ratio....miss her.

Thanks MCX,

Sounds like it is do-able, and finding a video of the process may be helpful..
