Hi  my name is Paul and I'm new on this forum.
I'm living in the Netherlands (holland) and drive á Cadillac sereis 62 1959 4window sedan, and á Oldsmobile Toronado 1973.

The Torro is giving me some trouble and it's narrowed down to the carb.
It won't hardly idle, with the mixture screws out 5 turns I have it idling now on 350 to 400 rpm, but not smooth like it should, as soon as I'l put my hand over the airhorn the idle speed increases to 700 rpm or more and it starts to run smooth...so its sukking way to much air.
Allready put in á new intake manifold gasket and did most of the vacuumhoses that were doubtfull.
The carb is warpt thats for shure, so it might not totaly close anymore with the standard thin gasket that I used from a set so I'm quite shure I'm going to need that thick airhorn gasket!
I also discovert that the primary trottle shaft has a lot of tollerance, about at least 0.5mm thats 0.020 inch, I havend disasambled it jet but I'm quite shure it wil be more, surtainly not less!
So I think it's possible that it sucks a lot of air there....if so I'm probbably gonna need bushings to!
I like to here an professional oppinion on this...could this be the solution for the idle - air problem I'm suffering.

By the way it's a Rochester quadrajet  nr 7043252 RC    2382.

A complete/correct rebuild will solve your issues.  This includes pulling the idle tubes out and cleaning in and under them, and making sure the airhorn seals well to the main body.  Shaft bushings are a must to make sure all the air at idle speed comes down thru the carburetor and not in around the primary shaft.

Our HP kits come with a .015" thicker gasket, and all the parts needed to do a complete/correct rebuild.

We also sell SR kits, which can be ordered with a thicker top gasket instead of the standard one.

We ship overseas daily, and are familiar with Custom requirements, etc.  It's really not much more expensive to ship rebuild kits and small parts overseas via USPS than it is to ship them within the CONNUS.....Cliff

I did do an Overhaul on the carb, but not compleet in the way you ment ( no tubes and so ).
I hear you say.....half done!.....your right, but it was the best I could come up with.

Used an overhaul set called "Hygrade" carburator repair kit  number 635B.
The point is that after I finished it was worse, maybe becourse I cleaned the whole carb and with all the dirt gone the clearences became bigger? and allowed it to suck more air then before....cousing the opposite of what I aimed on!
The thicknes of the airhorn gasket from this set was ( after being used ofcourse ) 0.034 inch.

How thick is the thickest version U offer Cliff? in a set or seperate.

What the main trottle shaft concerns, do I have to messure the shaft first, or are those standard messures!
When I took it appart to clean, at first, I saw green paint on the shaft, it looked allright to me so the ware should be in the base plate....and bushings would cover that.

Could You guys guide me to order the right parts for my carb....I dont want to make stupid mistakes.
What information do you need beside the carb number?

The way I see it the first thing I need to adress is the bushings of the main trottle shaft and the thick airhorn-gasket.....to put the airflow back on it's trail.

Could use some help ordering the rigt stuff I'm a newbie there too.

On what part of the site do I get info on the prices of the parts + shipping? I dont want to ask questions
in the wrong place...

The money best spent would be to get one of our books, there is a chapter on rebuilding which covers many of the steps required to make sure the carburetor works correctly after it's finished.

If it runs worse after rebuilding, and specifically shows lean at idle and low speeds, then more than likely the cleaning process did not unplug the idle tubes.  This is a common problem, as they are pressed into the casting and a lot of dirt/debris builds up in, and under the tubes. 

There are other things that can lead to less than desirable results, idle tubes and leaking at the primary shaft being at the top of the list.

There are a lot of parts not included in the Hygrade kit that should be installed.  At a minimum I would upgrade to one of our complete accellerator pump assemblies, secondary cam/spring, idle tubes, filter w/spring, and a new float.  I would also install the high flow Viton needle/seat assembly, more than likely the Hygrade kit did not contain the correct one......Cliff
