704213 carb
« on: June 02, 2023, 01:09:26 AM »
Hi, I  have a pontiac 350 that I believe is bored over .040.  I was told it has a mild cam in it.  It has dual exhaust but no after market headers a 4bbl Holley 1850 and a performer intake.

Ive always been partial to the Quadrajets.  I use to really like rebuilding them when I was younger.  Is there a Quadrajet model number that would work well for me with just a rebuild kit?  I have a  7045213 that I am considering rebuilding. I believe it came off of a mid  70s pickup with a 350.  If this is a good option i'd like to put an electric choke on it and a modification kit for optimum efficiency/performance.   Thanks for any and all advice.

Nice carb and a good choice for the 350 Pontiac with very little needed aside from a slight recalibration.  I can help with the rebuild kit and tuning parts, but it's a divorced choke model (choke on the intake manifold).  You will need a later model "hot-air" choke carb to covert it to electric, or a later model truck carb that already has an electric choke on it......

Thank you for the quick response. Ive been out of the game now for 25 years.  The divorced choke kind of had me confused but I had a feeling it wasnt convertable. I will keep looking and post back when I find something and we will go from there. Thank you Cliff.

I have a 17059506 now. It also appears to have come off of a chevy pickup with a 350 in it. It has the heat activated choke.  Just let me know what I need and I will begin ordering the stuff from your website.  Im not going to modify the car too much more as my focus is daily driving during the restoration process and garage storing it during the winter. Thank you very much sir.

Good choice for what you are doing.  Those convert easily to electric choke.  I'd start with a rebuild kit and electric choke conversion.  Since the cam is unknown difficult to say if you will need to open up the idle system.  I'd start there and see how it performs.  Those are excellent units for sure and far superior to the early divorced choke units in every area......
