Rebuild kits, update.
« on: May 19, 2009, 03:59:46 AM »
Despite the fact that ethanol is alive and well just about everyplace in currently available fuel, we are still seeing over the counter rebuild kits show up with rubber parts in them.

Yesterday we had a local guy bring in a 1969 Pontiac carburetor he had just installed a "kit" in from NAPA.

The kit included an accellerator pump which was "soft" white plastic and had a black rubber seal on it.

Two things we noticed immediately with the pump.  The location for the retainer was WAY too low for the factory duration spring, and the spring was coil binding as soon as the pump started to compress.

This causes a hydraulic "lock" situation, as the fuel trapped under the pump can not escape fast enough.  Something has to give someplace in this situation, in this case it was the black rubber pump seal since the fuel had softened it up and it was swelled up considerably to at least twice it's normal size.

The needle wasn't holding either, and I suspect the tip of the needle was not Viton.

The company that supplies currently available kits is fully aware that the parts contained in them are not ethanol compatable.  They are NOT taking any steps to correct the problem(s), simply because they have thousands of old stock rubber parts in stock, and aren't about to have new parts made.   Carb kit sales are simply too slow for them to take a BIG step in that direction.

In any case, all of our parts are ethanol compatable, and upgraded for best performance and durability.

We have been selling more kits than I can count, and folks are having great success combining the information from out book with complete high performance carburetor kits.  Wanted to thank everyone for the business.  We continue to add new items to our kits, and upgrade components in them as needed.

Everything we have made here is from American Companies, NOTHING is contracted from any "off-shore" sources. :)......Cliff
