Choke Thermostat
« on: January 11, 2013, 09:44:43 AM »
I have a 17057512 carb, recently rebuilt with cliffs kit.. Problem im having now is the Choke Thermostat.

Prior to the rebuild i could watch the pulloff work, but it wasnt contacting the green lever/tang that cracks the choke open (looks to have been bent out of the way) and then the choke blade would slowly open (appeared to me that the thermostat was wokring).

Anyone have any pic's of how the tangs (levers) should look behind the choke housing, the green choke pull off tang was bent in such a way that the pull off wasnt contacting it, i re-bent it and now the pull off contacts the green pull of tang (and openes the choke)

- Pic of the choke attached.. The Rich/Lean marks are located at the 12 O'Clock position to the 2 O'Clock position and currently i have it set to 0 (white mark on thermostat cap lined up with center mark on housing).

is there a way to test if its working.? it appears that the terminal that the red wire hooks up to has been pulled partly out of the thermostat housing. If i pop the rivets off is that something i can repair?

Also, i noticed most replacement thermo's only have one wire..why does mine have 2??

Thanks...

The single post wires are the only ones I've seen for q-jets. as long as you don't use a seal on the cover, it will ground itself through the carb.

We sell the best e-choke for the q-jet.  We went thru all the available units, testing each one of them, and use one that clocks correctly, only needs one wire, and works like it's supposed to.  Our kit comes with a connector, clips, and screws.  They are available directly off the website......Cliff
