Cannot Locate Casting Number
« on: April 14, 2013, 06:34:38 PM »
Hello:

Just pulled the Qjet from my 71 olds cutlass and I cannot locate the casting number.  Can you tell me with a picture where it should be? Also do I need another number in order to get a rebuild kit or parts.

Thanks

 Welcome to CHP!

Should be located on the drivers side. It is on a flat "pad" near the rear of the carb.

And with the casting number, give it to Cliff and he will have the kit you need. :)

Thanks for the info but I was looking at Cliff's website and supposedly mine would be on a circle tag next to the large QUAD sign.  I have nothing there.  Also it should start with a 7?

A 71 Olds carb would be stamped vertically on the main casting, drivers side, just above the secondary throttle shaft.

As I said above, look near the rear of the carb. It should be there.

I apologize in advance for the gold paint:

You can see the casting number on the wall of the main body just behind the secondary throttle linkage in that photo.

You're right. My bad.

There are a lot of misleading ebay sellers out there. :(

So is it any different than a 71 350 with AT?  Trying to decide to rebuild this one or not?

I don't know why it would be any different.

The only reason to go with another carb of that vintage is if you were trying to go for a #s matching resto. Otherwise, I'd just set up what you have and tune it to run well.
