Accelerator pump slow to return to "up" new rebuild
« on: June 16, 2013, 04:44:40 PM »
Howdy,

Rebuild kit from Cliff's. Polished the bore with 600grit, it moved smooth before lowering the air horn on top.  It plunges down very smooth with no binding. It takes about 20 seconds to return.

I'm thinking the seal under the air horn for the pump shaft is too tight? Or does the seal need some sort of lube?

Cheers

Chris

Is this with the pump arm (the one that rides on the roll pin on the air horn boss) disconnected?

If so, did you lube the seal? You shouldn't be running these dry. It's designed to be lubricated by fuel when operated. I put a little bit of motor oil on mine unless it's going directly into service.

If the pump arm is connected and the pump arm is well lubed, you may be running into a binding throttle shaft. Did you rebush the throttle?

Yes the linkage (lever arm) is disconnected, throttle shaft was bushed, no bindings there.

I dabbed a bit of motor oil on the seal and now it just jumps back up like you want it to!

Thanks Shark Racer!

Cheers
