Recipe #1 or 1910 calibration?
« on: July 04, 2013, 09:23:46 AM »
I got the book and a HP kit, I have a 17084226 of unknown origin (it has been apart before since the main well plugs are epoxied) that is clean and ready to go back together. I had planned to set it up according to recipe #1 for the engine I am building, but after measuring everything I found it is already close to the 1910 recipe. To get to recipe #1 many holes will need to be plugged and redrilled, it is already very close to the 1910 calibration. Which one should I start with? It seems like an easy choice given the starting point, but would the 1910 be appropriate for a fairly mild RV type application?

Engine:
International 392
about 9:1 compression
about 208 @ .050 cam
manual trans
9000 lb truck
4.88 gears
HP: expect low 300's
Torque: expect low 400's

carb as measured:
idle tube: .034 (new)
idle channel: .055
idle air bypass:.105
idle disch: .093
upper idle:.067
lower idle:.076
acc pump disch:.025
single MAB:.086
sec well rest:.039
sec air bleed:.036

It's actually not close to the 1910.   1910's have much larger idle tubes and smaller idle bleeds, so they delivery a LOT more idle fuel than the 226 carb.

I'd open up the idle tubes to .036" and leave the rest stock for initial testing, should be fine for what you are doing....Cliff
